          Art of Ceramics

Goodfellow provided high performance and advanced ceramics for a permanent exhibition at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh. Spanning from the nineteenth century to present day the exhibition displays the impact of ceramic use on health and hygiene applications in domestic and medical settings. Read more

          Science and Industry museum

Given a relationship that stemmed back to 2015, when Goodfellow provided materials for the Wonder Materials: Graphene and Beyond exhibition, museum staff once again contacted the Goodfellow technical team with a request for materials for their latest science workshop. Read more

          Jordan Keaney - Coda

Traditional ceramic material is hard, stiff, heavy and solid. However, in the design sector there is a requirement for materials which are flexible and versatile. Foam material tends to be lightweight, soft, squishy and airy. When the two are put together to produce ceramic foam it enables the material to be incorporated into furniture design for homes. Sector focus: Metal Foams

Nickel foam provided by Goodfellow was used as a scaffold template for the creation, through chemical vapour deposition (CVD), of graphene foam. The design of graphene-based hybrid nanomaterials for photocatalytic applications is one of the most promising areas of research in the field of water remediation. Read more

          Additive Flow

In traditional additive manufacturing (AM) methods, there have always been constraints in terms of what materials can be used. Additive manufacturing capable of building functional multi-material components has been a key challenge in recent years. The solution lies in Additive Flow’s multi-functional software, with multi-property capabilities, driven by a multi-physics approach. Read more

          Additive Manufacturing (AM)

Material constraints and diversity are major barriers to turning 3D printing into a production process. Goodfellow has a growing line of additive manufacturing (AM) raw materials and is continually increasing its production supply with the advancement of constantly evolving AM technology for more than three decades. Sector focus: Aerospace

          Platinum wires

Goodfellow supplied platinum wires to aid an aerospace project. The Cassini-Huygens project was the first human-made object to land on a world in the distant outer solar system. Read more

          Light guides

PMMA light guide supplied by Goodfellow on an aerospace project has helped to identify charged particles as part of the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS-02) on board the International Space Station. Read more

          Satellites and engines

Goodfellow has provided bespoke alloys for use by a world-leading aerospace manufacturer focused on satellites and engines. The client develops, produces and sells engines for commercial and military aircraft and satellites as well as offering a complete range of support services to airlines, armed forces and other operators, including fleet management. Pulsating Heat Pipe

          PMMA Light Guide

Photograph courtesy of PHOS team, Università degli Studi di Pisa, Italy.

The image shows Goodfellow aluminium pipes mounted inside an experiment to characterise the performance of a pulsating heat pipe in very low gravity (milli-g) environments. Pulsating heat pipes function by means of the specific distribution of vapor bubbles and liquid "slugs" within very thin capillary tubes, which then act as pumps. The technology is high performance, low cost and benefits from simple construction. A critical parameter of the construction is the internal and external diameter of the aluminium tubes supplied by Goodfellow.

          Energy absorption

Video submitted by James Hatherell, Birmingham (UK).

This video shows aluminium honeycomb as supplied bv Goodfellow to the University of Birmingham being tested at the Transport Research Laboratory for its energy absorption characteristics as part of the lightweight nose cone structure of a student race car.

Formula Student is an international student engineering competition with Class 1 cars competing to similar rules as those used in Formula SAE in the USA. Student teams from around the world design, build, test, and race a small-scale formula style racing car.
